Artist Help:Interface Manager

From ShowCAD Wiki

The connected interface devices of the system are maintained by the Interface Manager which is located in the Resource tab of the Navigator view.

Caption text
Basic USB this is the Basic USB to DMX interface. There can be up to 10 universes defined on the interface, however, it is recommended to limit this to 2 universes. It is recommended that for USB to DMX the ShowCAD USB interface is used since the Basic USB is not isolated and can result in damage to the host computer.
Pathport DMX connections via the Pathport network protocol. There can be up to 64 universes defined on this interface. However, ShowCAD only recommends up to 20 universes due to the throughput of the PathPort devices.
ShowCAD E-DMX this is ShowCAD's Ethernet to DMX interface. Not currently available.
ShowCAD USB-DMX this is a USB-connected interface that provides DMX in or out. The recommended limit is three of these interfaces. For more universe use either Art-Net or PathPort.
Art-Net this contains Art-Net devices connected to the network. Artist communicates uni-cast with these devices and can therefore connect any number of devices.
MIDI Inputs these are connected MIDI input devices.
MIDI Outputs these are connected MIDI output devices.
Data Acquisition these are the data acquisition devices connected to the system providing analog and digital data input. These devices are by Advantech.
Serial Ports these are the available serial ports.

To install an interface[edit]

All interfaces depend on the supplied drivers for that interface. Artist comes with appropriate drivers for the currently supported interface. You should follow the installation procedures documented elsewhere.

If a driver and its associated interface are installed correctly it will appear in the list of interfaces here in the Interface Manager.

Network devices[edit]

Many manufacturers do not comply fully with the Art-Net protocol and it makes it impossible for Artist to detect accurately the properties of the connected devices. You can therefore add and adjust nodes and properties manually.

You can also manually add PathPort devices.

Saving Configuration[edit]

When you save the workspace all the connected devices are also saved. This means that Artist knows what interfaces it is expecting to find connected. Any that are found in the saved file but are not connected are shown as virtualised by a red asterisk.
