Artist defines a Universe as a block of 512 DMX channels. Fixtures are patched to these universe. In turn these universes will usually be patched to a connected DMX interface device as listed in the Interface Manager.

Adding Universes[edit]

The Resources/Input Output Patch allows you to add Universes. Right-click on the DMX Out icon and select Properties, set the number of Universes you want to add and then click OK.

Connecting Universes[edit]

If a Universe is not connected to an Interface is has a red asterisk overlay on the icon. To connect a universe to an Interface,

right-click on the Universe and select Properties. Select the Interface Type Select the node Select the universe Click OK This method also allows you to easily change the actual DMX device that the universe is attached to.

Testing the Connection[edit]

Right-click on the DMX Out icon and select Snagging Tools. This dialog allows you to alter channel level and perform other tests.
