{| class="wikitable" |+ Caption text |- | Enable || enable Artnet traffic |- | Broadcast || Use broadcast mode - unicast otherwise. |- | Disable Listening || This will stop decoding incoming ArtNet data. It will also stop receiving poll messages so node will have to be added manually |- | Select Network || this combo box contains all the IP addresses associated with this computer. Select the ArtNet ip address. |- | List || this list contains all the ArtNet nodes defined. You edit these to change the number of universes on each node. |- | Force Poll || click this button to send an Art-Poll message to all devices on the ArtNet network |- | Add Node || manually add a node to the list |- | Delete || delete the nodes selected in the List |- | Properties || edit the Properties of the selected node in the list. |} Artnet is the free license protocol for distributing DMX packets over TCP/IP packets in local area network systems. Artnet is supported by the widest range of DMX devices. We recommend that Artnet is used on a private network since it does not sit well with other network traffic. === Connecting Interfaces === Connect all your interfaces to a Ethernet Switcher via CAT 5 cabling. You cannot daisy chain CAT 5 systems and each branch is limited to 100 metres. For longer runs use Fibre Optic cabling. This can be daisy chained and is often the preferred choice. Each run of fibre can be over 1 kilometre in length. You also have to decide what network IP address range your interfaces will listen on. In general Artnet uses a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0 meaning that there is a huge range of available addresses. There are two common IP settings 2.x.x.x and 10.x.x.x. The first is preferred and is referred to as the primary IP address. === Suggested configuration === We suggest that Artist computer IP is set to 2.0.0.1 and that each of your interfaces is set to a unique address in the range of 2.0.0.2 through to 2.0.0.250. See your Interface instruction for details. Artist will you a Multicast configuration and the Interface switches should be set to sub-net = 0 and universe = 0. === Setting up the Computer === The computer requires a network adapter. Set the adapter up as follows, * Open Control Panel/Network Connection or Control Panel/Network and Sharing Centre. * right-click on the network adapter and select Properties. * select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item from the list then Select Properties. * click Use the following IP address and enter 2.0.0.1 and a subnet of 255.0.0.0 * click OK. === Testing connections. === * From Windows Start/Run or Start/Start Search - enter 'command' and press enter. This will open a black command window. * If the first of your interfaces is at address 2.0.0.2 then type 'ping 2.0.0.2 and press enter. The interface will respond with four lines saying that the interface replied. If it does not then there is some connection or setup issue. * Repeat this for each of you interfaces entering the unique address of that interface. * Close the Command Window. === Setting up Artist === * right-click on Navigator/Resources/Interface Manager/Art-net and select Properties. * check the Enable box. select the network adapter IP address from the combo box. * click OK Artist is now talking Artnet. However, many interface do not deploy the Artpol command and therefore they will not show up in Artist automatically. You therefore have to enter you Interface and details manually. === Adding a Node (interface) === You network interfaces are from here on know as nodes. * right-click on Navigator/Resources/Interface Manager/Art-net and select Properties. * click Add Node and enter a friendly name and enter the actual IP address you have set for that interface. * set the number of DMX output ports the interface and the number of DMX input ports. * click OK * do this for each of your interfaces (nodes).
